About The Snooze
© 2000-2005 Random Acts Productions

The Snooze is full length, half hour sitcom available only online at this website.  The show began as a summer project for fledgling comedy and film group Random Acts after their first season.  The cast was filled with actors, writers, and directors from the group and new comers that would soon be added in an ever expanding cast.  The show, like all of RA's projects, was shot on no budget and limited time inside a single two bedroom apartment.  Epi-sodes were written and shot just a couple weeks or in some cases only a few days apart; two episodes were shot back to back over a period of two days and edited for release throughout the upcoming season.  The first season was shot July-August 2003 and December 2003.  The second season was shot May-August 2004 and December 2004.  The painstaking shoots are what eventually led to the show's demise as the demanding production schedule took its toll.

The Story
The Snooze focuses on the lives and misadventures of the staff of KSNZ "The Snooze," an easy listening radio station located in the fictional city of Vermouth, Montana.  Local DJ, Jeff Kirkland works there with his best friend and station secretary, Aura Mora, and ex-Rock DJ, Guy Ladd.  The station is bought out by a New York corporation, Loud Mouth Broadcasting, whose owner sends his child-like son, Theodore Q. Caldwell, and his power-mad assistant, Brent Hobbes to manage the small town venue.  In an effort to keep costs down, they underhandedly hire a young intern from the local university, Renee Booth, to run thier entire advertising department.  Sparks immediately fly between Jeff and Brent who spend most of thier time, and the entire first season competing for Renee's affections.  Jeff eventually wins her heart, but that never stops Brent from trying to reverse everything Jeff has put into the relationship.

At the start of the second season, we learn that Mr. Caldwell has mysteriously disappeared and no one knows of his where abouts; Guy has been put in a federal prison for 20 years for shooting endangered animals in a Nation Wildlife Reserve prompting Brent to hire Hank Flenniken, a country fried, fish-out-of-water southerner trying to fit in to the Northern culture and stay clear of the insanity the rest of the station's staff throw at him.  Brent starts a new relationship with Renee's friend and Professor from Vermouth University, Molly Fitzsimmons, and hires her at the station.  All the while, a mole from a new Easy Listening Station (KEVL), Stacia Novak, has infiltrated KSNZ in an effort to weaken and eventually take over the station.  Mr. Caldwell finally returns to reveal that it was indeed the owner of KEVL, Sydney Eichman, that was responsible for his disappearence.  Thinking he had won a trip to Bermuda, Mr. Caldwell had been stranded in Berma for the past 5 months.  With Mr. Caldwell back, the station regrounds its footing, but all the while KEVL launches take over schemes or just comes over to redecorate for thier "inevitable" acquisiton of the station.

Cast members availability to shoot led to thecreation of many storylines, such as Guy's arrest and Mr. Caldwell's dis-appearance, but the show's solid characters, quick wit, physical humor, and oustanding ensemble cast kept the show alive through the cast changes, exhausting schedules, and constant technical mishaps for two seasons, 24 epi-sodes, and two reunion episodes a year after the show's finale.  The Snooze was Random Acts Productions greatest undertaking to date and is something every party involved will always be proud to have been a part of.
